For quite some time now I have been searching for a solution for a CPU load issue regarding VirtualBox. I can find reports of the issue going as far back as 2008 but I am unable to find a working solution for it. I am running a W7 64 bit guest on a W7 64 bit host, using the latest version of VirtualBox (5.1.30), including the latest Expansion Pack and Guest Additions.
The issue is: on the i7-5600U host CPU, the 'System' process is
permanently using at least 25% CPU (one thread fullly loaded) as long as the VBox guest machine is running, regardless of the load on the guest machine. This heats up the machine unnecessarily.
I tried several suggestions I found online, like reducing the number of guest cores to 1, disabling nested paging and replacing IDE by SATA controllers in the guest configuration, all to no result.
